They arrived at Juniper’s house and they grabbed their bags from the back of his car.

“Do you mind if I take a shower here? I could go to Granny’s house if it’s weird.”

“No, it’s fine. You can use my shower. I’ll hang out with Granny.” She was looking at her phone. “Oh great, my dad is going to be late.”

“How late?”

“He says maybe midnight.” Her face was contorted, and she started limping as she walked to the house.

“I can stay the night. I don’t mind. I can just text my mom. It’s no big deal. I was going to cut Granny’s lawn tomorrow morning, anyway. Then we can go to the lake?”

“I’ve got Pete coming over around ten.”

“Okay, it’s a date.”

Juniper nudged his shoulder and they sauntered into the door. “Granny, we’re here! Where are you?” They went into the kitchen and found a note laying on the table.

My loves, Great job at the track meet! You guys did wonderfully. Sorry I couldn’t wait for you. Movie night at the old lady’s home. It was my turn to bring the dessert. Casserole is in the oven. Cookies on the counter.

“Your Granny is the best.” Juniper opened the oven and looked at the casserole. “Oh, my favorite. Hurry and get in the shower. This is going to be ready in five minutes.”

“Everything is your favorite.” Eric teased.

“Go before I eat it all.”

“Okay, okay…” Eric left the room.

Juniper set the table for two on the kitchen table. She opened a beer from the fridge and took a sip. She never had beer before and she liked the earthy flavor. She took the casserole out of the oven. Then she went to put her backpack in her bedroom. Eric was standing there with a towel wrapped around his waist. She stared at him. His broad shoulders glistened with the water he didn’t dry off. His brown hair was tousled and messy. Juniper bit her lip and took a swig of the beer. She didn’t take her eyes off of Eric.

“Is that a beer?” Eric asked.

“Oh yeah, did you want one? I’m sorry. I should’ve offered. You know, I’ve never had one before. It’s really good.”

“You shouldn’t be drinking beer.”

“Why?”

Eric stared at her and didn’t say anything for a moment. “Well, for starters… it’s against the law.”

“I hear your argument. I would like to counter with the following: It really tastes good.”

Eric smiled. “Here, let me taste. For scientific purposes, of course.”

Juniper walked towards him as she did. She tripped over the chair. He caught her in his arms. Juniper’s hands were on his chest, and she spilled some beer on him.

“Whoa there. That would be my second argument. Alcohol makes you do stupid things.” Eric helped her stand up straight, but kept one arm wrapped around her waist.

“I have no counter argument for that as I am a perfect case study. Although, I’ve had only a few sips. Here, you need to try this.” Juniper said laughing.

Eric still held her with one arm as he took a swig of the beer.
